Dhigurah, a stunningly green island located 95 km from Male, is part of the South Ari Atoll. Its name means “long island” in the Maldivian language, Dhivehi, reflecting its impressive length of over 3 km and a maximum width of 300 m.
The island boasts the longest and arguably the most beautiful sandy beach in the entire Ari Atoll. With its gentle entry into the water, it’s perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Near the shore, you’ll find rocks covered in corals, home to schools of colorful fish and, with a bit of luck, even a turtle or two.

At the end of the island, you’ll find a picturesque sandbank that can be reached by foot or boat, depending on the water level. If you’d rather skip the walk, a local rickshaw ride can be arranged for about $15. This idyllic spot is often the setting for romantic dinners and picnics, creating unforgettable memories.
Dhigurah is surrounded by approximately 30 renowned dive sites, making it a paradise for divers. The island also features a PADI dive center operated by one of the hotels we offer, ensuring top-notch diving experiences.
In the center of the island, you’ll find small shops stocked with basic groceries and a variety of restaurants worth exploring. Among them, we highly recommend Long Beach, known for its affordable local dishes, delicious non-alcoholic cocktails, and fresh juices. A great advantage of the island is the possibility of snorkeling on the reef directly from the beach, where with a little luck you will encounter sea turtles, manta rays and sharks just a few meters from the shore.

The island does not have a lagoon, the water is more wavy in bad weather.
How long does it take to get to Dhigurah Island from Male Airport?
To reach Dhigurah Island from Malé Airport, you can take a domestic flight to Maamigili (25 minutes) followed by a speedboat (30 minutes), totaling around 2–3 hours. Alternatively, a direct speedboat takes 2–3 hours, while a public ferry is the slowest, taking 6+ hours.
